As reported by China Internet Information Center, ‘The expert members of the review committee, professors at schools of fine art from all over China, chose a winning design… that reflects the delight and enthusiasm of Chinese people welcoming people from all over the world.’ An athlete in motion in the form of a stylized ‘chop’ or seal, the figure resembles the Chinese character jing (capital, sparkling) in Beijing. Below it are the words ‘Beijing 2008,’ written in Hanjian calligraphy of the Han Dynasty, and the requisite five Olympic rings.
