The Art Research Centre, CAFA. “Students and faculty at Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts have been working seven years on hundreds of projects that will be seen by an estimated million visitors to China and 4.5 billion television viewers. Founded in 1918 as a royal academy of Chinese painting, sculpture and calligraphy—subjects still taught there—this 2,500-student university now offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in graphic design, photography, new media, experience design, industrial design, jewelry, fashion, furniture and transportation design. Here, students work on projects including street banners and vehicles in the Art Research Centre studio, which is wallpapered with core graphic banners. Tacked on the wall is a comp for a poster series in which the sport pictogram is superimposed on a black-and-white photograph of an athlete, in this case a tennis player taking a two-handed backhand.”© Alex Miller
