"I've always loved doing night photography, and it comes in handy when teaching a workshop like the one I did in Italy where I took this photograph. During the day when I'm out in the field with students I don't shoot for myself in order to spend time with them, so that leaves the night, when the unchanging light allows me to take my time. This 30-minute night exposure of an ancient curving walkway embedded between stone walls surrounded me in a world of geometry and texture. In a situation like this, shooting film instead of digitally avoids the noise problems often associated with digital capture and extremely long exposures."
