“This photo of Tupac Shakur was taken in New York in 1993 for Rolling Stone magazine. At the time I knew it was a quarter-page photo, but I kept seeing it as a cover. In the end, it was used as a cover when he was killed. The reason I got him with his shirt off is he was changing and I asked if I could shoot one with it off, with his tattoos showing. I wanted to slow down and be more deliberate, and shot it with a 4 x 5 camera.”
