"Will Hopkins and Neil Shakery (the art directors) asked me to do a thing on Daniel Ellsberg for Look. They expected to send me a bunch of photographs to select from, but I asked them instead to try to set up a sitting where Ellsberg could pose for me. They did. Here's a guy who's probably turned the whole world around at that point, and I'm drawing him. I said to him that if he'd never been drawn before, then nobody had ever looked at him like I was at that moment."
