"For a book review of the novel Once Upon a River, by Bonnie Jo Campbell. The story follows Margo Crane from adolescence to young adulthood, as she fends for herself along a river in rural Michigan, after running away from home. I originally drew the sketch with the figure barefoot, but before going to final I showed a version with the boot, and Nicholas agreed that it better portrayed the character's tough, independent nature."
