"The Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts collaborated with Prison Performing Arts and Washington University in St. Louis to create a unique theatrical event: Staging Old Masters: Former Prisoners Perform at the Pulitzer. Ex-convicts, all graduates of a workforce outreach program, were taught about the artists and subjects of Old Masters paintings. Each selected one or more paintings that moved them, and then created a personal performance—music, spoken word, acting—that presented the parallels between their life and their subjects. We created posters, mailers and ads for the performance series, juxtaposing the convict interpreters with the artwork they had selected. Creative director Geoff Story was the photographer. The performance series lasted five weeks, and was extended due to its popularity and critical acclaim."
