"Balto is my interpretation of the classic American Gothic typeface style. I had loved this style since before I knew what a typeface was, but I had never found an interpretation of it that I felt adequately captured its unpretentious, sturdy and versatile soul. So I set out to make my own. It took about fifteen years of thinking and six years of drawing to get it just right. I am quite proud of the result."
