“I was hired by Runner’s World magazine to document the grueling Seroogy’s Valentine’s Day Run held annually in De Pere, Wisconsin. It must’ve been about –7 degrees outside during this race, and I thought the runners were absolutely insane for competing in this weather. Several runners passed by with their entire beards frozen from sweat. This young lady crossed the finish line, and I remember thinking how beautiful the ice looked on her face, so I raced over to photograph her while she caught her breath.”
