Chris Curry, art director
The New Yorker, client
"In the war between online book publishers such as Amazon and traditional publishers of print, the only subject at risk is the reader. The representation of two tanks shows the digital made of pixels and the analog, a book with wheels and a cannon. When choosing the color palette and general feel for this illustration, I was inspired by the photo of the infamous Tiananmen Square incident. I wanted some way to explicitly depict dictatorship and imminent violence."
