“In 2013, three designers—two from Lewis—assembled a group of Birmingham-area design aficionados to create an annual, weeklong celebration of all things design. The fruit of that collaboration, the first-ever Design Week Birmingham, was a massive success, even garnering attention from international press. For the event’s second year, we sought to honor the idea of collaboration with a simple visual metaphor borne out of elements of the Design Week Birmingham logotype. Vivid, luminous slashes—representing the various design disciplines—intersect, overlap and interact. This diverse community may use different methods and approaches, but when it unites to celebrate design, the resulting energy is vital and electric. The 2014 event guide perfectly encapsulates this idea.”
