“Some of these portraits were taken on assignment for National Geographic for a cover story on identical twins. I traveled to Twinsburg, Ohio, for the Twins Days Festival, which is the world’s largest annual gathering of twins. My assistants scoured the festival to find the most identical pairs so that only the subtlest differences would be noticeable, inviting comparison. After the story came out, a publisher asked me to do a whole book of these portraits (Identical: Portraits of Twins, teNeues, 2012), and I happily jumped at the chance. It was quite a fascinating undertaking—I still find myself checking out twins everywhere I go.”
