“I painted Long Term Unemployment to accompany an article in Sojourners magazine about the bleak prospects of job hunting in the current economy. During my research, one of the visuals that stuck out was the cardboard box that people use to gather their things when leaving a job. The open flaps of the box started to remind me of window shutters, so I connected the two. The box is filled with office supplies and personal effects, but outside the window, it’s dark and desolate.” 11½ × 15, acrylic on paper.
