Background: Every year since 2020, Cartier has created a beautiful paper magazine to showcase its most iconic content. In 2022, the jewelry and watch manufacturer wanted to create a similar experience on digital, making its content available to a broader audience. “365: A Year of Cartier” is a digital counterpart to its iconic magazine. The immersive online experience invites users to navigate the imagery and events that have shaped the company over the past year through an infinite scroll or explore its most memorable moments chapter by chapter in full WebGL.

Design core: The website invites the user to dive deeply into the rich universe of Cartier on an infinite scroll or discover the highlights of the year through 35 different chapters. By adding an atmospheric soundscape and creating seamless transitions, we also magnified the beautiful content produced by the company. We created an interactive experience that keeps you engaged from start to finish.

Challenges: Fitting the rich content into a full WebGL experience. The central aspect of the design principle was not to create templates but rather to lay out the content in the most organic way possible. The creative teams at Bonjour Paris worked in close collaboration with Cartier to make each chapter unique on its own and create a riveting experience, similar to a book that keeps you engaged.

Navigation structure: Users are invited to navigate through a year of Cartier’s content through the site’s infinite scroll. However, to facilitate the readability, we enable our audience to switch to a vertical scroll on longer chapters by encouraging them to “discover more.” The website seamlessly switches to the infinite scroll whenever users reach the bottom.

Technology: The design was made using After Effects and Figma, and we did the development using GSAP, Svelte and three.js.
