Digital publication The Maine Thing Quarterly extends the mission of the Maine Office of Tourism, promoting the state’s features and attractions for visitors. Each issue presents an introspective dive into niche topics and one-of-a-kind experiences iconic to Maine—and the Acadia National Park issue is no exception. Created by ad agency BVK, the site uses photos, videos, illustrations and long-form written narratives to showcase the natural wonders of the national park on Maine’s islands. Vertical scroll-based transitions and parallax elements guide users through the site’s content while AJAX programming loads the next part of the story, making for seamless and elegant transitions between chapters. BVK took inspiration from the park’s trail markers to create the minimal illustrations that pepper the site, and the site’s warm color palette mirrors the sunrise hikers can see atop Cadillac Mountain, the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park. The site provides a rich and engaging visual experience that fills viewers with wanderlust, and tempts them with the prospect of a vacation to the national parks of Maine.
