Wanting to break away from the usual agency exposition, Venice, California–based design firm All Boats Rise created a site with intentional simplicity that reflects its natural surroundings—in particular, the relationship between the moon, the sun, the sky and the tides at Venice Beach. Partnering with designer and developer Bryan James for his creative, motion-driven approach, All Boats Rise conceived its online experience as an ever-changing environment, driven by time, tide and local wave height. Visitors can select the celestial body on the center of the homepage to explore a deep, interactive dive of the wave heights logged by the site; an off-site API hooks into the current, past and future wave heights of Venice Beach, and SVGs—combined with GreenSock Animation Platform’s DrawSVG—change the site’s graphical wave to correspond to those wave heights. Time-based gradients tie into the everyday experience and atmosphere of All Boats Rise’s surroundings. The design firm used the CMS Perch to help implement a templated modular system, enabling it to customize pages to suit the diverse and quickly expanding work it creates.
This data-driven design firm’s site features bold gradients on a minimal layout.
