Background: The site is designed to help people understand the idea of a new, personalized product that will evolve with them. This is the first product in its category that is made for you based on physical skin tests every month. We were excited to partner with the founders from Atolla from the beginning. We helped define the framework for the website and bring the mobile app to life. We built the e-commerce and subscription model from the ground up.

Design core: The site’s style is based on a modern aesthetic to feel at home with a new era of modern products. We simplified the standards of look and feel of the modern beauty industry to focus on the product and evolve from skincare to skin health.

Favorite details: The site is streamlined to prioritize content you will actually read in a manner you feel invited to. We are also proud of a company that stood by not retouching skin while making high-quality images, representing that the product is for real people.

Challenges: Working with a start-up, we had a much larger project than anticipated. There were so many details that mattered. Our clients were amazingly involved, supportive and aligned to get all the details right.

New knowledge: We learned about the importance of knowing the audience, listening to a wide range of stakeholders and being ready to move our position. There were so many things we thought we knew that were’t right for real users, and we are constantly evolving the site to perform better.

Navigation: We hadn’t done a sidebar in years, but it made complete sense to optimize the presence of key calls to action. This made us refactor the way we typically create our grids and layout content for balance.

Technology: There is a very technical, custom subscription service built on top of Stripe. There is also a very complicated Drip email software integration to grow long-term customer relationships.
