The Story is part of Barbour’s 120th Anniversary Celebration, which extends throughout 2014, and the site is a platform for all the digital and social marketing activity taking place during the year. London-based interactive design studio Nation crafted the site’s storyline to honor Barbour’s rich heritage as a family-run British company with three Royal Warrants, but also to balance the historical context with a modern, engaging experience of rich content and social incentives. The site’s visual style is based on the classic colors and textures of the British countryside to evoke the brand’s traditional values and the original palette for Barbour clothing. Tied to this backdrop, however, are cool interactions and a user-generated competition to give the site, and the brand, a modern feel. Nation designed the site to allow Barbour to add any type of content, including video loops, audio clips, image galleries, social media posts, full videos, animations and text, so that the Barbour story can be built from family archives as well as contributions from staff and fans of the brand shared via the #Barbour120 hashtag. The Story will continue to grow as a living archive of all things Barbour over the coming year.
The interactive agency built its site to represent its view on UX, design and content.
