Background: We had many talks about where we wanted this website to go and on who it should focus. As a newer studio, we only had so many cases to show. Our biggest concern was: “How crazy can we be without making it too complicated and overtake the actual work presented in our cases?” We settled on a solution that is meant to grow with future clients, adding fun and engaging details like custom cursor and page transitions. However, we kept it simple in its user experience to better make our work stand out, showcasing both identity and web design work in a clean way.
Favorite details: Just getting a studio website done is really an achievement all by itself, right? All kidding aside, we’re definitely most proud of pushing Webflow as a platform to create a more fluid experience, like utilizing barba.js for smoother page-transitions.
Time constraints: The only thing worse than having time constraints is having none. We started up on our new studio website over a year before the actual launch, not knowing exactly where we wanted to take it and being very busy with running client work. This meant that we did small adjustments here and there but never changed the core identity we set for ourselves. We were a little concerned of how the world would take our “new” website since it was getting “old,” but it has been well received we must say—winning a Site Of The Day on Awwwards straight of the bat!
Alternate paths: We probably wouldn’t have started creating our website a year before, when we had a lot of client work to do. Of course, that’s easy to say now, but I really would recommend anyone in the same position to take the time off from client work (if possible) to get it done. This could have saved us a ton of time on the long run, I believe. But hey, you grow and you learn!
Technology: The website is done in Webflow, using the best of Webflow, but still adding a lot of custom code, like barba.js, custom CSS, GSAP, Splitting.js and vanilla-lazyload. Webflow is a great platform, and we love it here at BASEBORN.
