Background: Our mission in this project was to help motion graphic design studio Bemo position as one of the leaders in the design and animation space and to reimagine how it displays its portfolio. The target audience ranges from creative, commercial and marketing directors, as well as people involved in the design industry. This project is a crucial part of Bemo’s rebrand serving as a primary outlet for presenting its stunning work.
Design core: All design elements used on this website serve one purpose—to emphasize the studio’s work. The site utilizes modern, clean typography set on a carefully crafted grid system and achromatic color palette that enhances the vibrancy of its portfolio. Information is strategically placed within a vector line going along the middle of the page. The line serves both as a focal guiding point and becomes the main brand asset that distinguishes the website from others.
Challenges: We put a lot of time and effort into the ideation and exploration phase. We started this process by building the identity’s foundation, which dictated the creative decisions when we designed the website. The main challenge was to find a perfect balance between a distinctive visual language and something simple enough to not interfere with the displayed work. The design and development phase ran smoothly, and Bemo’s team was involved from start to finish. Throughout the process, we confirmed how important the exploration phase is and how exploring various options, before doing the actual design, eases further development and integration.
Navigation structure: To achieve simplicity through the navigation, we only structured it in two directions—Work and Info. The navigation was intentionally highlighted via the vector line that follows you as you scroll through the website while having minimal impact on the design. We also created an additional menu for the mobile version containing the needed contact information while featuring a couple of categories from the Work page for easy access.
Technology: We used Webflow as the CMS. We also integrated GSAP to achieve beautiful animations and interactions on the website. To enable good performance and fast loading time, we utilized Vimeo CDN to stream the video content. Each video has a lightweight poster, so there is no wait time for interactions or loadings. The process of adding projects in the back end is streamlined and fully manageable via the Webflow CMS, letting admins make design decisions when they publish new work like choosing columns, aspect ratio or content type.
