Background: Our job was to revamp Benoît Nihant Chocolatier’s online presence, which included the existing online shop. This elite Belgium-based chocolate company makes chocolate from the cocoa beans in an artisanal and sustainable way. We chose to tell this story as a journey—from cocoa beans to haute-couture chocolate. Since chocolate is a beloved product, and the brand sells worldwide, our audience is quite huge.
Highlights: We decided that we would tell the story, as well as provide the more business-like information, along with beautiful images, videos, nice typography and short descriptions all wrapped up in a fullscreen page. It has a very simple and fluid navigation, which is paired with elegant transitions that don’t get in the way of the content—which was our main goal.
Challenges: The integration of an e-commerce platform with a highly customized interface. We wrote an API to take care of the entire dynamic content for the site as well as the store.
Favorite details: We’re proud of the whole thing. It was a challenge to put together two very different kinds of content: the cocoa journey, which is more visual, inspiring and curious, and the business part, which includes the online store. It was a nice challenge to make it all fit under the same look and feel.
Anything new: We definitely acquired a lot more knowledge and skills working with Magento. Also, since we also had to customize the payment gateways and delivery methods, we had to learn a lot about how these things worked.
Technical features: In the past, whenever we had to develop features that were map-based, we always used Google Maps. But for this project, we wanted something special to show where the planting partners are located and we decided to use Mapbox. Mapbox’s satellite view is gorgeous!
