Background: The site is an extension of who we are as a studio. Although our preference would be to not live online, with the help of Schnauzer Studio, we wanted to make sure our site honestly represented us through our work and unearthed the essence of Blok.

Highlights: The site is very image-and typography-based, focusing on our work as a studio. We boldly cut our logo, because we simply felt that we could.

Challenges: Adapting our existing imagery to work seamlessly with the many devices that are used today, while ensuring that we created an engaging experience.

Favorite details: The unearth page in the studio section because it truly gives a peak into Blok’s soul, what inspires us and what we stand for.

Navigational structure: The user experience was always the priority. We spent a lot of time wireframing, attempting to balance design and user experience. We have options for users to browse the site, either in grid or list format. We made sure to be consistent with our choices of transitions, movements and behaviors.

Time constraints: The difficult part about working on our own site is that we never have enough time to fully focus. It always has to run parallel to the studio’s dynamics and rhythm, which makes the fact that we launched a true miracle.

Technical features: The website is based on a custom Wordpress theme using simple language such as CSS and HTML, except for the unearth page where we needed to use Javascript. The unearth page is a very personal space for us, which will be always in a state of becoming, reacting to relevant issues or inspiring our process.

Anything new: We learned many things about UX and the elasticity we needed to grow with the site, as well as developing an incredible amount of patience to rethink and challenge our own ideas. Having a great team of developers to support us was essential to our exploration.
