In its inaugural year, Boom Boom Music Festival is the first event of its kind at the Legend Valley outdoor concert venue in Thornville, Ohio. As the festival showcases rap and electronica artists, Nashville-based design agency Perky Bros realized that its site called for something similarly energetic. With development by Ryan Dunlap, the site features a pleasantly rudimentary design. “In the same way the name ‘Boom Boom’ uses the fundamental elements of rhythm, we used pixels throughout the design to reflect the idea visually,” says Rex Runyeon, art director and designer at Perky Bros. “We paired a flat, vibrating illustration style with a loud color palette.” Type reverts sporadically from a regular state to a screen state, and Perky Bros manipulated imagery to move and feel active, while still maintaining an elemental feel. The result is high energy and rhythmic, just like the music that will resound at Boom Boom.
