Background: The purpose of the new Buzzworthy site is to serve as a dynamic platform that showcases our company’s expertise, our unique design style, and the specific services that we offer in the field of digital marketing and website development. As an agency that is constantly pushing the boundaries in design and development, refreshing our site periodically is crucial to display our capabilities and our recent projects. Through this latest update, we aspire to attract ambitious companies seeking to elevate their product or brand presence in exceptional ways.
Design core: Our company Buzzworthy draws its name from the bustling, meaningful activities of bees in the business and informational realms. Like bees’ characteristic buzz signifies energy, communication and industriousness, Buzzworthy conveys content, products or information that capture attention, evoke excitement and spark interest. You’ll discover subtle elements across our site that symbolize our brand, such as the honeycomb pattern upon scrolling, page transitions reminiscent of honey and the 3-D bubble resembling a honey ball, reflecting similar movements.
Favorite details: We take great pride in the motion design featured throughout our site, particularly the 3-D element resembling a drop of honey. Creating this animation using WebGL was a complex endeavor, requiring weeks of work with shaders and imagery to achieve the desired effect. Placed directly in the hero section of our homepage, this animation serves as an introduction to our brand and its essence. Additionally, we’ve incorporated this element into our Work page, where it dynamically showcases each project. One of our favorite aspects of the site is how the bubble reacts as you swipe between projects, adding a fun interactive element to the user experience.
Challenges: Designing and building the new Buzzworthy site posed several challenges. First, we had to ensure the site reflected the essence of our brand and its nature, which required a lot of attention to detail. Maintaining a balance between creativity and functionality was essential to create an engaging yet user-friendly interface. Incorporating unique elements, like the honeycomb pattern and 3-D visuals, while ensuring they enhanced the user experience without overwhelming or distracting visitors proved to be another hurdle. Also, optimizing the site for various devices and ensuring its responsiveness across different screen sizes and resolutions presented a technical challenge.
Lastly, balance was a massive challenge as well. The amount of time we needed to devote to this site while currently working on multiple client projects was complicated. At times, we had to put our site on the backburner and focus on client work, often for weeks at a time. In the end, we learned a lot about how to manage our internal projects and client projects simultaneously without losing momentum on either.
Technology: This website is a bespoke design that is coded from scratch. We utilized GSAP as our primary library for animations alongside three.js and WebGL. Employing AJAX for streamlined loading within a single-page-application framework. To facilitate simple content updates, we integrated Strapi as a headless CMS, letting team members make changes easily.
