Quick: what’s the most visited National Park in America? The National Mall in Washington, DC, is probably not the first thing that came to mind, but with constant events, demonstrations, concerts and historical attractions, the Mall sees an incredible amount of traffic, and it hasn’t been restored in 40 years. DC-based digital agency Carousel30 planned, designed and developed this site with the assistance of the Trust for the National Mall as part of the Trust’s campaign to raise private funds to renovate and improve the Mall. Carousel30 worked with the trust to curate content that gives all kinds of facts and information you might not know about the National Mall. A highlight is an interactive map and timeline that shows when and where important events, construction and noteworthy damage has occurred since construction of the Washington Monument began in 1848.
The site, which uses a Drupal Content Management System and the Twitter Bootstrap responsive framework, took nine months to complete. Since its launch, web traffic has gone up nearly 150 percent.
