Sydney-based design studio Christopher Doyle & Co.’s new site focuses on promoting its work by making projects big, bold and accessible. With prominent typography—pairing a grotesque sans serif with an elegant serif for large statement copy—and a consistent, underlying grid, the site’s design feels clean and restrained. Wanting to bring its brands to life through animation but not wanting to work with cumbersome GIFs, Christopher Doyle & Co. used BodyMovin, the plugin for After Effects, to export animations to a JSON file. This solution enables the site to display lightweight, high frame-rate and resolution-independent animations. Sydney-based creative development studio Hyphen implemented custom functionality into the site’s CMS to enable Christopher Doyle & Co.’s team to use these animations as feature images and in-line on the project detail pages.
