Created as a means to promote sales, this site announces the most recent in 2K Games’s series of civilization-building games. If memory serves, this is the first time (okay, maybe the second) we’ve profiled a game site. Intended for gamers, game sites are generally a morass of content that make zero sense to everyone else. This site makes sure that everyone “gets it.” While offering a straightforward look at all elements of the game, it also does a really nice job communicating the experience.
• The navigation is a straightforward series of links designed to hint at the content while also making it easy to access. Visitors navigate via stone blocks that integrate nicely with the game’s architectural theme.
• From wooden scaffolding that assembles, to a Roman flag that flaps and sets of plans that build, each link launches 3-D animation and sound effects.
• The site included an aggressive development timeline of only four weeks.
