Background: Taking advantage of advances in digital textile printing technology, Cloth & Company designs and prints fabrics in-house to create custom furniture and home goods in a matter of days. This is an informational website that gives the press, retailers and tradespeople a look at who Cloth & Company is, the collections it creates and collaborations it has done with artists and tastemakers for brands like Target, Chairish and One Kings Lane.
Challenges: Creating an interesting collage layout that is asymmetrical, fluid and not repetitive, while also making it simple and intuitive for the client to have full control on the back-end. We also had to consider what it looks like if only five, six or eight—or any number of—photos are used for a case study, so there are never odd, blank gaps between the photos.
Time constraints: The client needed the site launched faster than we were able to produce, so we ended up splitting the site into two phases. We launched the most important pages (Home, News and Contact) first with the rest of the pages (About, Collaborations and Collections) launching eight weeks later.
Navigational features: At the top of the Collaborations page, we created a left-to-right scrolling navigation that lists each project, so users can easily get from one collaboration to another. This worked well with the editorial style design of the site, acting like an interactive masthead.
Technical features: The site is powered by Craft CMS. The front-end is standard HTML, (S)CSS and JS.
