Background: With six shops in France, the online store represents a lever and an opening for the cutlery brand Ceccaldi to the rest of the territory, as well as the international market. In order to drive sales, a design faithful to the character of this artisanal, family-run business was essential to appeal to lovers of exceptional cutlery. Our goal was to offer a design that asserted the identity of this Corsican cutlery brand and corresponded to its high-quality products.

Design core: We built this website around a simple navigation structure with a comfortable interface. The site begins with quick access to the product through the three entries on the homepage and the prefiltered listing with tabs. Throughout the content of the website, we linked the history, the know-how and the product’s technical features on a unique, clear product page. This is rounded out by a cross navigation to a page dedicated to taking care of the knives for life-long usage, including an upsell for the accessories. We really tried to follow a clear hierarchy for the user to find in-depth information throughout their browsing of the website.

For the identity and design, we drew inspiration from Corsica’s environment mixed with the artisanal world. Patterns that recall Corsican landscapes as well as the appearance of Damascus are used on a variety of Ceccaldi’s products. We used serif and handwritten fonts to convey a handmade atmosphere. Visually refined pages better showcase the visual and thus transcribe the high-end universe of products on the site. Combined with fluid and discrete animations, the navigation is more dynamic and sublimates the products—for example, with the patterns appearing in the background.

Challenges: Given the time constraints, it was necessary to create a design that was both unique to limit development time but also creative and bold enough to meet the client’s request. It was therefore necessary to create functionalities that were very simple to implement. To create these functionalities, all the components of our team were fully involved throughout the production process, enabling us to have a global, versatile vision on all subjects.

Navigation structure: For the navigation, our priority was to ease the access to the product while pushing forward the know-how from the cutlery craftsman as well as the high-quality materials used in ordered to excite desire among the users. The overall singularity of the site offers a fluid and particularly ergonomic browsing experience.
