Started by members from all corners of electronic goods company Bang & Olufsen, Create aims to inspire and be inspired by creatives around the globe by providing a platform for innovations in sound design with this site by Vienna, Austria–based design firm Wild. And Create’s online platform pulls no punches, either; Wild transformed the landing page from a horizontal scroll into a musical instrument. As visitors scroll, headlines for each of Create’s subpages pluck three “strings” in the background; visitors can also drag each string’s endpoints to tune them to different notes. “When the Create team visited us in our office for a workshop and beers, we discussed different ideas for a part of the site that would feature interactive sound,” says Matthias Mentasti, art director at Wild. “But generating sound while browsing the site was the simplest, yet most effective idea. And it reflects not only the ongoing curiosity of the people behind Create, but also the playfulness with which they approach their jobs.”
Different navigation points on the landing page zoom in and bring visitors to different projects featured by Create, with case studies and product photography. For the back end, Wild worked with a strictly separated stack of React for the front and a headless SaaS CMS, which is called through a Rest API in the back. The dynamic sound for the strings is post-processed through Web Audio API to place it properly in the audiovisual mix. Create’s site received 20,000 visits in its first week after launch and won an FWA of the Day; Create also received more than 200 newsletter subscriptions after its site launch.
