Responses by Marek Suchanek, cofounder and designer, Creative Nights

Background: Creative Nights is a Prague-based digital design atelier.

Design core: The straightforward presentation of our expanding portfolio. We got rid of all the unnecessary intros, pages, animations and transitions that distract users. At the same time, we wanted to keep some attractive, interactive elements, so the homepage has a spotlight effect that unmasks the secrets underneath; this also enables users to fluidly pass to case studies.

Challenges: The most challenging aspects were to get rid of the bugs caused by the libraries we used and performance issues. We used to have video content in the background of the homepage, but unfortunately, the site performance dramatically decreased on older devices, so we had to switch to static content.

Navigation: There isn’t any special navigation. We wanted to create a simple, fast system for users so they can focus on the content.

Technology: The main animation on the homepage and the transitions between pages were done with PixiJS. For the rest of the animations, we used the GreenSock Animation Platform. On the development workflow side, we used Roots’s Sage as a WordPress development boilerplate. This enabled us to use the full potential of JavaScript ES6 and webpack and to write the templates in Laravel’s templating engine Blade.
