Background: The site is aimed at photographers who are considering travelling to Japan for their next holiday by showcasing amazing photos that have been taken on previous trips run by Bristol, United Kingdom–based tour agency InsideJapan Tours.
Highlights: The art direction for the site is influenced by two things: the red circular icon taken from the Japanese flag and the circular visual of a camera lens. Using unique picture cropping, we’ve tried to create an interesting visual for the campaign. The rest of the site design has been kept very minimalistic in order to not detract from the stunning photography.
Challenges: Creating the clipping masks in code in a way that was flexible for all the different images that could be uploaded. Special attention was also given to the landing page transition where we had to come up with a way of layering both the “cut out” above the circular crop and the animation.
Favorite details: The transitions on the site and the smaller interactions on the gallery pages. It takes considerable time to implement all of these features, but the results when browsing the site speak for themselves.
Time constraints: Given more time, we would have created some more custom treatments on some of the secondary inner pages. However, we feel that we gave the attention to the right pages given our launch deadline.
