Bowen Hills, Queensland–based design firm Bigfish created a bespoke site for the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, an organization that funds projects to restore and preserve the Great Barrier Reef. Built in Bigfish’s custom content management system Tank, the site features a flexible, modular-style layout with a minimalist aesthetic, enabling the content and beautiful reef photography to shine. “Rather than a traditional template-driven website structure, Tank—with the Cockpit admin interface—gives publishers a range of dynamic content blocks that form the basis for all the website’s pages,” says Bigfish managing director Tim Brown. “This allows for content to be showcased as required for an engaging, intuitive user experience.” The site utilizes Google Maps to communicate the Great Barrier Reef’s scale and diversity, with a custom layer that outlines the marine park and marks points of interest, including underwater ocean views and satellite images of islands.
