Founded in April 2017, Glasgow-based design studio ilka knows both the importance of client work and the importance of creating personal work. That’s why its site gives equal attention to both, prominently featuring its recent collaboration with designer and photographer Susan Castillo as an animated header on the site’s landing page. A plus sign takes visitors to ilka’s project pages, each with a hero image that represents the project and an in-depth explanation that dives into the thinking behind the design; collaborators, such as fabricators, are credited appropriately. “We've found over the years that people find it difficult to understand what we do,” writes Laura Service, cofounder of ilka. “We wanted to break down our projects so anyone can see our process and what we are capable of—no matter their background. It was also important for us to show that the people and companies that we work with have been happy with the results and that our work has positively improved their business.” The site demystifies ilka’s process and results with elegant design, images and in-depth case studies that make it a pleasure to peruse.
This Zürich-based digital design agency revamped its site with a sleek new design.
