Background: The creation of the new illo.tv site took us on a journey of brand rediscovery and came as a natural step, a reassessment of where we are as a studio from a creative standpoint. It better represents the studio’s signature style and culture while also displaying a variety of projects that speak for our work. It was a necessary upgrade directed at both potential clients and collaborators, as well as at fellow creatives looking for inspiration.

Design core: While the site’s design sticks to the essentials, we added new features for an extra layer of fun. From the decomposed shapes that form our logo to the bold color palettes that switch in-between menus or custom pointers, we made sure to add plenty of details throughout the website.

Small, quirky interactions are also a fun new addition. Infinite loops prompt for endless scrolling on the project pages. A button lets users swap the teams’ virtual desks like an online version of our real life practice. From illustrations to whimsical doodles or photo portraits, the studio page is packed with surprises.

Favorite details: We’re particularly proud of the color-filtered search: through yellow, white, pink, blue or green, you can browse our projects and see how we’ve approached these hues throughout our portfolio using various techniques. Users can also filter their search by industry or the technique we used, going from fintech to set design in a heartbeat.

Going through the dropdown menus, the color schemes change with every click, and the personalized pointer accompanies movements with a confetti-like sequence of dynamic dots. Keywords tag along in the color play with a special blink effect highlighting specific terms.

Challenges: The whole design concept took some time to develop as we had a bit of a hard time finding common ground for our creative ideas. We eventually turned to five-minute challenges, taking turns to create something for five minutes straight. After countless rounds of that, we finally reached a satisfying result.

Integrating the actual design with our different projects required a creative effort as well since we wanted to blend our signature style with the particularities of every project. Since colors play such an important role in our work, we decided to use them to better integrate everything. Now, each project has its very own color palette, mixing muted and unconventional hues with the bold contrasts that define our brand.

Navigation structure: We turned our focus on creating a better structure to showcase our projects. The homepage is dedicated to our best and latest projects, while the older ones can be easily found in the Archive section. We also created a Special Projects page dedicated to all our noncommercial work, like #illoxmasminimarket and the Tarot-o-bot. The design for this page takes a special turn as well, as the projects stand out using the irregular shapes that enclose them.
