Background: The purpose of the site is to educate potential visitors about the new resort and residences opening in Placencia, Belize, and to get them enough information so they’re inspired to book a trip.
Highlights: My goal was to take an editorial approach to this site design, largely due to the depth of content. I wanted to tell enough of the story on the home page but also give users a reason to dig deeper and learn more.
Challenges: One of the biggest challenges was structuring the content. Making pretty pictures and storytelling were much easier to handle once the content was structured properly.
Favorite details: I love the overall look of the site, but the two details I love the most are the content transitions on the home page and the destination section.
Anything new: Every site build is a learning process, but this one proved to be extra challenging because we had to come up with a visual storytelling paradigm that would work for this resort and its sister property, Ka’ana Resort. When I started telling the Itz’ana story visually, all the standard elements had to be considered—structure, UX, search optimization, content—but then knowing it also had to work for a very different property opened up many more questions.
