The Jacob’s Pillow Dance Interactive website features an extensive archive of more than 300 videos highlighting dance festival performances in the Berkshire Hills of Western Massachusetts from 1936 to the present. To create an immersive experience that could be accessed on different devices, the creative team at Barrel kept the website’s design simple to give priority to the heavy video and photo content. Performances in styles from ballet to folk and hip-hop are displayed in a full-screen HTML5 player. Barrel’s website design optimizes image resolution for the viewer’s device, seamlessly translating the same content from a desktop-friendly environment to mobile platforms. One priority of the website was to encourage exploration and sharing. Barrel accomplished this by creating interactive features such as themed playlists that users can customize with keywords and a game that invites dance fans to test their knowledge in a series of ten randomly selected video questions.
