In 1916 Keds launched the first sneaker brand while simultaneously popularizing the term sneaker (which refers to the noiseless rubber soles that allow wearers to “sneak up” on people). One component of a large promotional campaign, this site celebrates a century of creativity and originality through a dynamic and rich multimedia experience.

The source of much of the site’s content is the work of a large creative community impassioned by the Keds brand, including custom designed shoes from members of the Keds Collective and styles uploaded by consumers who love the shoes.

A flipping tile interface (with the number of tiles based on the size of the browser window) offers visual freshness while keeping the navigation simple and original; clicking on them loads site assets. A calendar-based navigation tells the story of the brand over 94 years, while allowing for a new story everyday, promoting discovery and providing both linear and non-linear ways of exploring site content.

• The site will refresh everyday for a year with daily facts, decade facts, designs of the day, designer of the day and look of the day; by the end of the year, it will have over 2,000 unique elements.

• A Geo-location API customizes the site based on the user’s time and location.

• Beginning in April Keds began launching the Century Collection—decade-inspired shoes only available online.
