Responses by Kim Levan, cofounder, KOKI-KIKO.

Background: The site was created for Maxima Therapy, an agency that connects neurodivergent individuals with therapists who truly understand them. The goal was to move away from the cold, clinical tone often associated with therapy and instead create something that feels alive, sensitive and human. The audience includes both neurodivergent individuals seeking support and caregivers looking for a more empathetic, modern approach to therapy.

Design core: At its core, the site is built around movement and emotional resonance. We used layered animations, soft transitions and an expressive visual language to reflect the fluid, nonlinear nature of neurodivergence. The design avoids rigid structures and instead leans into something more organic, responsive and intuitive.

Favorite details: We’re especially proud of the microinteractions and motion system. Every transition, hover and scroll moment was carefully crafted to feel intentional. The goal was to make the experience felt instead of only seen. It’s subtle, but it creates a sense of care and attention that mirrors the brand itself.

Challenges: Translating something deeply human and emotional into a digital experience without oversimplifying it. Neurodivergence isn’t linear or uniform, so we had to constantly question structure, hierarchy and interaction patterns to avoid making the experience feel too rigid or standardized.

New lessons: This project especially reinforced how motion can carry meaning. We pushed further into using animation as not just a visual layer but a storytelling tool. It reinforced how powerful small, thoughtful interactions can be in shaping how a site feels.

Navigation structure: We wanted navigation to feel intuitive but not overly prescriptive. Instead of forcing users through a strict path, we designed a system that allows for gentle exploration. The structure is simple on the surface but flexible enough to let users move at their own pace.

Technology: We built the site using React, with GSAP handling the animation system. We also explored AI-assisted tools during parts of the process, mainly as a way to prototype and experiment faster. The combination let us create a highly interactive experience while maintaining performance and control.

Special technical features: A lot of care went into synchronizing scroll behavior with animation timelines, creating a smooth and immersive experience without overwhelming the user. We also focused on performance, ensuring that even with a high level of motion, the site remains fast and responsive.
