Big, bold product images and a simplified navigation introduce the experience on this recent relaunch for outdoor/performance gear manufacturer Merrell.

The unique, interactive and outdoor-focused destination has a Performance & Style section that highlights new product development stories and product features; Let’s Get Outside is the site’s social component; but it’s the store (and of course the products) that make this site a real standout.

A filter that allows consumers to create targeted searches—based on outdoor activity, color, comfort technology features, style, and terrain to be tackled—transforms the shopping experience from simple browsing into a fluid, interactive, product-matching activity. The site also has the functionality to compare three products, a formatting feature for printing and a bookmarking tool to save a product to Facebook, Digg, Yahoo!, etc.

• Adobe Flex was used for the site's front-end; Remote Object as a gateway for the front- and backend, and a custom .NET framework for the e-commerce/product management platform.

• Since launch, there’s been a 110 percent increase in page views compared to last year; a 43 percent increase in visits; a 29 percent increase in unique monthly visits; and a 32 percent increase in average time spent on the site; most importantly, there’s been a 7 percent increase in the average total of each order.
