Background: The Oakame website was designed to showcase its furniture and craftsmanship, targeting an exclusive, high-end audience. Another primary goal was to introduce direct purchasing options, a feature missing from the website’s previous version. Additionally, the site needed to appeal to architects and industry professionals, enhancing its attractiveness to a broader professional audience.
Design core: The site’s minimalist design is inspired by the NFC plates integrated into each piece of furniture, adding a unique touch to the visual identity. We wanted to create a smooth and intuitive navigation, guiding users quickly to product pages.
Some transitions, especially in the lookbook section, use cover images to reinforce this fluid experience. The site’s main feature is the configurator, which enables complete and quick customization of each product. Each change in the product configurator is instantly displayed through integrated 3-D renderings in various settings, making it easy for users to visualize their choices.
Finally, the custom loader reflects Oakame’s essence by visually separating the words oak and âme (meaning “soul” in French), emphasizing the brand’s commitment to nature and authenticity.
Challenges: The most crucial and challenging aspect of an e-commerce site is achieving seamless fluidity and efficiency. Given the extensive customization options for Oakame products, we meticulously designed the configurator to be intuitive for users while aligning with our established design standards.
As a creative studio, we also wanted to enhance the experience with subtle animations and interactions, carefully ensuring they enrich rather than disrupt the user journey.
Navigation structure: For intuitive navigation, we placed direct links to all product-related information in the header and brand-specific navigation in the footer. This layout organizes information efficiently, making it easy to find different product categories while keeping the menu uncluttered to ensure a smooth browsing experience on the e-commerce site.
Technology: For the Oakame website, we used a custom WordPress theme integrated with WooCommerce. We used GSAP for animations, Lenis by Darkroom Engineering for smooth scroll and Taxi.js for page transitions.
