Zync Communications designed Olympic.ca to be the go-to place for information on Canadian Olympic athletes, sports and games. It was built in preparation for the 2014 Sochi Winter Games, but made to last well beyond the closing ceremonies. The site was created with a modular format, so content modules can easily be swapped in and out according to the Canadian Olympic committee’s changing needs before, during and after the games.

Zync wanted to keep the navigation simple so users can immediately access what they’re looking for: stories, photos and videos of athletes and sports. The content on the site is dynamically driven, with related content bridged by category and tag, and highly-clicked content marked as popular. That means that each time a user returns to the site, the information in the content modules is fresh. Visitors can get a quick fix of Olympic action on the homepage and then explore deeper through a menu that divides the site into sections. Olympic.ca is built using elastic search technology, which lets sports fiends refine topics as they search, making it easier to find very specific pieces of information, from bobsled race times to ice dancing scores.
