See New York City through designers’ eyes. Curated by design firm Hyperakt, On the Grid reveals the best of Manhattan and Brooklyn in cheerful colors and a minimalist grid. Chipper animations of clouds set the tone for this friendly guide, and designs pay homage to travel posters. Each month, a new design firm or creative gives a digital tour of a neighborhood, from Gowanus to Prospect Lefferts Gardens. You can browse through restaurants and boutiques via a map view, or simply peruse the list of hot spots. The site contains about 1,200 images and counting. Soon, it will include a global landing page with entries into multiple cities. The site started spreading on its own after a feature in LayerVault. Since then, FastCo.Design, Curbed, Brooklyn Magazine, CoolHunting and Subtraction have all spread the word. The site has been visited 50,000 times since mid-April. But Hyperakt creative director Deroy Peraza understands what’s more important: “It has given us the opportunity to create meaningful connections to other designers who believe in the project.”
The design firm‘s site shows off its high-end services with video and an asymmetrical grid layout.
