Sponsored by the Getty, Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. from 1945 to 1980 is an ongoing exhibition that tells the grand-scale story of the rise of the Los Angeles art scene and every major art movement, between 1945 and 1980, that popped up in and around it.

This site is the virtual hub for the unique collaboration between more than 60 Southern California cultural institutions; it’s an essential visitor’s guide to the region-wide event and demonstrates how this explosive era of art impacted the world. It gives visitors the tools, search options and personalized recommendation functionality to help them navigate their way around the hundreds of programs associated with Pacific Standard Time.

From the Exhibition tab on the homepage, visitors can launch the works related to each show, as well as information about the venue, a list of related events and directions. All content, can be sorted by institution, theme, location, date range and other categories to create a personalized list of must-sees. In Visit, an area map pinpoints all area museums and a zoom into local neighborhoods. MyTime, a key site feature, lets users bookmark items of interest and curate their own tour programs; personalized recommendations are based on answers to a handful of simple questions (users can also connect their Facebook accounts to MyTime profiles to receive personalized recommendations based on information in their social media profiles). Another essential resource is a series of Family Guides, targeted for families with children eight to seventeen. Offered in English and Spanish, the series of seven guided activity sheets, each address a specific theme: Southern California, Photography and Prints, Cultural Identity, Design, Performance Art, Light and Space, and Politics (a special guide for teens).

• The exhibition will run through April 2012.

• The site is part of the integrated “Celebrate the Era that Continues to Inspire the World” ad campaign that includes online video and broadcast PSAs print, outdoor, radio and theatrical ads.

• Content will eventually include this video series featuring unexpected pairings between pop culture icons of today with artists featured on the site.

• Adding to the overall online experience, the local online directory Thrillist.com provides information including nearby restaurants and shops.

• Guest columnists will join the conversation on the official blog with weekly posts that will include informative behind-the-scenes looks and insights into featured exhibitions and events.
