Based in Wellington, New Zealand, Patchwork Architecture features the work of formidable architectural designer duo Ben Mitchell-Anyon and Sally Ogle. The pair creates stunning designs from simple materials. So it seems only appropriate that, for its online presence, Patchwork reached out to Wellington-based designer and developer Nick de Jardine—the one-man band behind Grafik. To reflect Patchwork’s design ethos, de Jardine stripped down the website to its core elements—images and type—turning the content into an online version of one of Patchwork’s houses. Loading states and layouts reflect the notion of patchwork with irregular image sizes and a randomly generated transition made from thumbnails of Patchwork’s portfolio.
de Jardine designed the site entirely in the browser, building it in WordPress; the WordPress engine facilitates caching and its content delivery network reduces loading times. Since its launch, the site has garnered more than 7,000 views.
