Phosphene, a visual effects studio located in New York, New York, needed a new site to introduce its production work to potential clients. The firm reached out to New York–based creative technology studio Koalition and the Danish digital design duo Norgram—Sebastian Gram and Mathias Høst Normark—to create a site that not only featured its content, but also implemented a compelling frame and navigation system. With a design that focuses heavily on typography and spacing, the site features a narrow, modern typeface in all caps to reference credits, movie visuals and posters. The site’s smaller interactions bring it to life. “We initially knew that we wanted to focus on making animations and transitions work just right,” says Andreas Wagner, cofounder of Koalition. “It took a long interative process to find the look that suited the site best. In the end, the old adage ‘keep it simple’ held true.” A parallax scroll on the “Credits” page features animated minibackgrounds, bringing each of Phosphene’s credits to life. Built with Wordpress’s API, Phosphene’s site runs as a React- and Redux-based JavaScript application, mediated by a JSON API
