Background: Radiant Studios is a new company formation but the people running the show have credibility from years of experience in the industry. We wanted to create a memorable website that represents their bold vision and skillsets.
Design core: The mixture of clean and broken grid layouts. WebGL effects and transitions. VHS-inspired aesthetics. Bold, colorful typography.
Favorite details: Radiant Studios is all about turning better stories into a better reality with the content they create. We wanted to make that concept into an interactive yet simple element on the website. We turned that idea into a cover with VHS-inspired effects transitioning between two views and bringing its concept to life.
Challenges: Implementing all the ideas we had with a good performance across browsers.
Time constraints: We are very happy with how the final solution came about, but if we had unlimited time, we would have implemented even more visual cues and references from the retro VHS era.
New lessons: We have made a few websites with WebGL and three.js, but the possibilities sometimes feel endless. So a big lesson for us is to know when to stop exploring potentials and start crafting the final outcome before devoting time to implementing the Easter eggs.
Navigation structure: We wanted to create something energetic for the homepage. To make it easier for the busy users, we added a very clean burger menu as an option to find your way through the website faster.
Special features: Radiant Studios is steadily creating new projects for its website, but from the start, it did not have many. To make the first impression of the layout feel more aligned with the current content, we designed a temporary project page that will automatically switch to a more suitable layout when Radiant has reached ten projects.
