Background: The purpose of the Refugee Tree site is to inform and raise awareness of the current deforestation in the Amazon rainforest. The forest is at such an alarming level of degradation that, in a few years, the Amazon will no longer be a tropical rainforest. Through data, we show the urgency of our petition to pressure the authorities into ending illegal deforestation.
Larger picture: All the pieces of the Refugee Tree campaign were directed to the site, since it functioned as a hub for both the project content and the petition. The website was essential in spreading our message, supporting the campaign with data and collecting signatures.
Design core: We based the visuals on the Amazon rainforest itself. The natural shape of the forest contrasts with the graphics inspired by the trails of fire and destruction.
Favorite details: Through data and visuals, the website conveys the urgency and importance of our action, leading most of the people who access the website to sign the petition.
Challenges: How to tell the story. We have the context about deforestation and linking that to the challenges of a refugee, but this time, for a tree!
Navigation structure: Information hierarchy provided the starting point. Based on the main message, we chose to show an uprooted tree on the first scroll. After that, we presented the case film that contains all the info. We think this is the best way to engage the community.
