Background: ROM Boats is the only manufacturer of custom recreational motorboats on the Iberian Peninsula. The main reason for that is Jorge Martins, the founder of the project who left his CEO position at a prestigious global consultancy firm to embrace his old dream: creating and launching limited, topnotch motorboats, customized to each client.
ROM wanted a new website to promote the launch of its new boat, ROM 28. The team came to Lavva and asked us if we would build a website similar to its boats: A customized, handcrafted, unique and high-quality website. And we said yes, of course!
Design core: There are several elements in this project that we want to highlight. First, we wanted to transmit a clear message that ROM boats require time, patience and mastery to build. To design and produce a limited edition boat like the ROM 28, you need highly skilled artisans in areas like woodworking, fiber and composite construction, iron and steel fabrication, upholstering and design.
To make it possible for the user to embrace all the imagery and richness we had seen in ROM’s shipyard, we pushed ROM hard to provide us with high-quality photos, video and 3-D imagery.
Process: It’s always great to remind yourself that when you put your heart into a project, things come out really different. This site was a labor of love. From the client side, it’s a husband and wife putting together everything they have to go after a dream. From our side, we truly embraced this project like it was our own.
This site represents teamwork between ourselves and the client. We worked hand in hand with them to write each text and adapt each photo. We created an environment that reflects the richness and detail of each boat.
Navigation structure: The final result of all this work is, of course, the boat. We showed its details through different media: photos (lots of them), a 3-D overview where you can move around the boat, and a 360-degree photoshoot where you can see all the details and even “go inside.” The quality of finish on each boat is really unique, so we used everything we had to teleport visitors into the boat and out to sea.
