Enter the online world of Switzerland’s technology development laboratory Sirin Labs and be treated to a tour de force of animated browser graphics, courtesy of digital production company MediaMonks. Built to be the center of the launch for Sirin Labs’ smartphone Solarin, the site takes visitors on a tour of the smartphone’s capabilities by taking itself apart in front of their eyes. “[The site]’s a spectacular piece of interactive development that harks back to the days of epic Flash websites,” says Wesley ter Haar, founder of MediaMonks. “We challenged our designers and technologists to really break the boundaries of what was possible within a browser—without breaking the browser itself.” The Solarin’s design emphasizes durability and security, and the site emphasizes that with a ‘secure zone’ that visitors can activate. As ter Haar explains, “Users can click a switch and the whole site flips into a secure mode where they can explore the military-grade security features of the handset.” The site has received accolades from Awwwards and the FWA, as well as high praise on social media.
